Data Converter

Translate structure without silent losses.

Convert compatible JSON, YAML, TOML, XML and CSV data. Reject unsupported structures and reveal representation changes before export.

Text-only workspace. Never executes input. General limit: 200,000 UTF-16 units per editor; some operations have tighter limits.

Private session · history disabled

Opt in to store up to five recent text transformations on this device. Never stored on an account or synchronized. Files are never included. Disable history stops new saves; Clear history deletes saved items.

How to use Data Converter

Paste input, select a command and its options, then run the transformation. Review diagnostics before copying or downloading the result. Input is not executed.

The shared data model contains objects, arrays, finite numbers, strings, booleans and null. Custom YAML tags, cyclic aliases, duplicate keys, unsafe object keys, non-finite numbers and lossy numeric values are rejected. CSV is string-only rectangular records; conversion refuses typed values. XML uses an explicit ordered node representation to preserve attributes, mixed content and repeated elements.

Privacy and boundaries

Editor contents stay in your browser. Transformations run in a disposable worker and are never sent to a formatting or AI service. History starts disabled; enabling it writes text to local browser storage only. Clearing that history removes this tool’s saved entries, not data saved by other applications. The surrounding website may load its normal navigation and analytics, but the utility workspace is excluded from content-interaction capture.

Use the labeled operation selector for the available capabilities. Keyboard users can reach every control with Tab; Ctrl or Command plus K opens the command palette. Copy requires clipboard permission. Download creates a local text file. Clear removes the current workspace; it does not automatically delete an opted-in history. Inputs and outputs are always rendered as text, never as a runnable preview.

Can every data format be converted without loss?

No. Data formats differ in types, ordering, comments and structure. This converter validates a supported subset and reports transformations instead of silently dropping unsupported data.

Data Converter: practical use and context

Data Converter is a structured-data translation workspace for developers, analysts and documentation authors who need to move a supported data model between file grammars without hiding incompatibilities.

From source document to reviewed export

Start with a complete document and select its actual source format. Choose the destination before converting. Keep a copy of the original outside the output editor: conversion is not an archival backup. Read the diagnostics before copying the result. A valid destination document is only useful when its structure still matches what the receiving application expects.

For a configuration review, convert the included JSON object to YAML, inspect its object keys and list, and convert the result back to JSON. Compare values and types, not just indentation. This exercise makes representation changes visible without relying on production configuration. Comments, formatting conventions and schema-specific meanings are separate concerns from the shared data model.

Why some conversions must be refused

CSV is a rectangular collection of string records here. A nested object, boolean or null cannot simply become a CSV cell without deciding how its type will be represented. The converter refuses unsupported typed values rather than silently flattening them. Prepare a deliberately string-only table when CSV is the required destination; retain a typed source when those distinctions matter.

XML uses an explicit ordered-node representation. Attributes, repeated elements and text interspersed with child elements cannot reliably be represented by guessing that every element name is an object key. Inspect this representation before feeding it to code that expects a simple object. A successful XML conversion does not establish compatibility with a particular industry XML schema.

Review types, values and ownership

Duplicate keys, unsafe object keys, cyclic aliases and numbers that cannot be represented safely are rejected. These errors often reveal ambiguous source material. Correct the source intentionally instead of deleting diagnostic-triggering values merely to obtain output. Test converted configuration in its consuming application before replacing an existing file. A parser can verify grammar, but cannot know your deployment conventions or business rules.
