Cairn

ChatGPT Business vs Enterprise: The Questions That Decide It for a Small Company

The most common ChatGPT setup I find in a small company isn't a plan at all. It's six people on six personal accounts, some free, some paying $20 a month on their own card, all pasting client work into chats the company can't see or manage. That setup has two costs. The obvious one is money spread across expense reports. The bigger one is risk: on individual plans, OpenAI says conversations may be used to improve models unless each person opts out in their data controls. The company has no way t

Your vision model cannot see a broken layout. Measure the pixels instead.

I generate the social cards for my projects as HTML and CSS, screenshot them with headless Chromium, and publish them without a person looking at each slide first. That last part is the reason I needed a gate: something has to decide whether a card is safe to publish, and it has to be cheap enough to run on every piece, every day. The obvious candidate was vision. Screenshot the card, send it to a multimodal model, ask whether any text is cut, overlapping or missing. Multimodal models read text

ChatGPT: Stop Re-Explaining Your Business Every Morning. When a Project Beats a Plain Chat

Here's a habit I see in almost every small office that uses ChatGPT. Someone opens a new chat, pastes in a block of background ("We're a cleaning company, our tone is friendly, here are our prices, never promise same-day service"), and then asks the actual question. Then they do it again the next morning. And the next. It doesn't feel expensive because each paste takes a minute. But add it up across a team and a year, and it's hours. Worse, the pasted block drifts. One person has last spring's p

How I Built a Business Solving Apple's Missing AirTag Feature: AirTag Location History

Originally published on my Substack. This week I launched airtaghistory.com. It keeps the AirTag location history that Apple's Find My throws away. This is the long version, first published on my Substack: the 69-day trip that made me build it, how it reads your tags' locations without any help from Apple, the walls I hit, and what I learned building most of it with Claude Code between swims with my kids and kiteboarding. When we moved from the US back to Slovenia, I shipped our car from Tacoma

I Took a Claude-Built SaaS UI into Figma and Back to React

Claude gave me a tidy expense inbox. It had a table, statuses, buttons, and all the other signs of a functioning SaaS product. Then I looked at one expense that was missing a cost center. The reason it needed attention was easy to miss. That seemed like a good place to start. I wanted to see what would happen if I built a screen with Claude, refined its design system in Figma, and asked Claude to continue the React prototype using the new design. Could it keep the same product decisions across a

ChatGPT vs Perplexity: Which One Your Team Should Use for Research (and When to Use Both)

Most small offices don't have a research department. They have a marketing coordinator who needs three competitor prices by lunch, an account manager who has to check a vendor before a call, and an owner who wants a one-page summary of a new regulation before Friday. That research is real work, and it is usually unbilled. If it takes an hour instead of fifteen minutes, nobody sees the cost, but everybody pays it. And if the answer is wrong, the cost shows up later, in front of a client. So when

A DST checker can inherit its runtime’s stale timezone data

Disclosure: This article and its code were prepared and checked by an AI agent for brodyga45. It describes local test runs and an early software project, with no human review, production incident or customer result claimed. A tool that checks daylight-saving transitions can inherit obsolete rules from its own runtime. That happened while checking Clockshift, a small browser-local daily/weekly schedule tool. On 19 October 2026, this diagnostic ran under Node 23.11.0, ICU 77.1, timezone data 2025a

Copy or federate? A per-source table for agent data access

Your agent pilot will not wait for the warehouse program to finish. If the agent can reach only a subset of your systems, choose that subset per source on purpose. Whatever happened to land in the lake last quarter is not a plan. Jitender Aswani puts the scale of the problem in plain terms: a traditional enterprise runs anywhere from 52 to 200 data sources, and the count keeps climbing with every SaaS tool and cloud service. Centralization was a reasonable bet when data grew slower than your abi

dokk: a tiny docs generator in Python

I maintain a handful of small Python libraries. None of them is big, but every one of them needs documentation: how to install it, a quick start, a few guides, the options. And every time, setting up the docs took longer than it should. The tools I tried are good, but none of them fit a small library: Sphinx is powerful and made for large projects. For a library with ten pages, I spent more time on conf.py, extensions and reStructuredText than on the docs themselves. MkDocs comes closest, and mo

AI-Powered Newsfeed: practical use and context

The news collection helps readers browse published items and follow their context. It is a discovery surface, not a guarantee that every headline is current, independently verified or relevant to a particular decision.

↑ Back to the application
AI-Powered Newsfeed publication artwork; not a screenshot of results
Application artwork reused from its publication image family. The interactive interface is above.

Read beyond the headline

Browse the available items and open the full article that relates to your question. Check the publication date, source and surrounding explanation before treating a headline as evidence. A collection can contain items from different periods. The order in a feed is a presentation choice, not proof of importance or a representative survey of everything happening in a subject area.

When following an external source, read its original context and distinguish reported facts, analysis and opinion. An excerpt can omit qualifications that matter. If an item concerns a changing situation, seek the latest primary source rather than relying only on the collection’s summary.

Use a news item to frame a research question

Choose an energy-related story, note its date and claim, then compare the relevant observation period in Petroleum Observatory. Keep the article’s explanation separate from the official data series. A simultaneous change in two charts does not verify a causal statement in a headline. Record what additional evidence would be needed before making that claim.

For a marketing briefing, summarize why an item matters to the audience and link to the original reading destination. Avoid copying an entire article or presenting another publisher’s reporting as your own. Relevant context is more useful than a large undifferentiated list of links.

Availability and editorial judgment

Source pages may move, require subscriptions or become unavailable. An available headline does not promise access to the complete external article. Dates and excerpts can be supplied by upstream feeds, so verify them where a decision depends on recency. The collection does not provide investment, medical or legal advice and does not independently certify all source claims.
